Music of Zimbabwe & South Africa at ScienceWorks
Warmth and light are filling the Rogue Valley, making it the PERFECT time to connect with music that will fill the spirit with warmth and light as well. Rogue World Ensemble, Zizi Marimba, and Ingwe Marimba are sharing the joyful music of Zimbabwe and South Africa on Saturday, June 1st at ScienceWorks Hands-on Museum Plaza from 1 to 3 pm.
Rogue World Ensemble is presenting a number of multi-part songs from South Africa, including "Shosholoza," the unofficial anthem of South Africa that celebrates unity of community. Ashland-based student marimba groups Ingwe Marimba and Zizi Marimba will be performing music from Zimbabwe as taught by the renowned Zimbabwean musician Dumisan Marain.
Traditionally music in Zimbabwe and South Africa is not a sit-and-watch affair. Following the spirit of the culture, you are invited to participate in the performance! Throughout the event, we will be teaching song choruses, clapping rhythms, and dance steps. We want to share the joy of this type of communal music with you!
