Las Horas: a Dynamic Blend of Tradition & Original
Meet Las Horas, the incredible duo sharing the music of the altiplano at Sounds & Sustenance from the Heart of the Andes-a magical evening of food and music in benefit of Rogue World Music.
as Horas features Sebastian Alcaraz (Mendoza, Argentina) and Federico Behncke (Ashland, Oregon), a duo whose musical focus revives the rich musical heritage from the Andes. Their performance features traditional songs & dances, as well as original compositions on traditional Andean wind instruments (quena, quenacho & sikuri flutes) and Andean string instruments (charango & ronroco).
Alcaraz (left) is a pioneer of the renaissance of Andean music currently seen and heard all over South America and in other parts of the world. He is a founder and member of the renown Oesch-Alcaraz-Melchiori Trio and a founder and artistic director of several Inca/Andean music festivals in Argentina, among them the "Año Nuevo del Sur Festival"- a celebration of the Southern Native American new year. Alcaraz builds all his wind instruments - quenas and panpipes - and teaches workshops on Andean music performance and instrument building.
Behncke (right) is a composer, performer, and sound designer from Ashland, Oregon. Originally from Mendoza, Argentina, he studied oboe and orchestra conducting at Universidad Nacional de Cuyo and composition and sound design for theater at Southern Oregon University.
