Building community and cultural connection through world music
Dia De Los Muertos Festivities
Dia De Los Muertos Observance. Saturday, October 29, 2022. Talent Maker City. 304 E MAIN ST. Talent, OR. 5 - 7 pm.
In 2020, RWM made an ongoing commitment to supporting other local events that create opportunities for and/or nourish a sense of cultural and community connection. We are thrilled to support the annual Talent Maker City- organized City Dia De Los Muertos festivities by funding a performance by Ballet Folklórico Ritmo Allegre at the event.
Started in 2016 by Talent Maker City board vice chair Laura Quintero Antón, the annual Talent Dia de Los Muertos observance begins with a presentation at Talent Maker City in front of a community ofrenda. Laura shares about the history of the event, the significance of each component of the ofrenda, about the food specifically connected to the event, and the trajectory of the celebration’s history in her own home town in Mexico. In preparation for this event, local businesses are invited to workshops at Talent Maker City to make their own ofrenda base, learn about the significance, and how to set up the altar with care and intentionality. These ofrendas are set up each year on city sidewalks, so that all community members can visit them and participate by contributing a photo, note, or offering after Laura’s presentation. 2022 marks the second year where Rogue World Music has coordinated the addition of dance and music to the observance, working with Ballet Folklorico Ritmo Allegre. This local dance troupe preforms heritage dances from each region of Mexico, and showcases a wide range of dancers. Their upcoming performances include a December 12th Dia del Virgen de Guadalupe performance - a key winter observance in Mexico.
