The Ashland World Music Festival: 2019 main event details!

Storytelling. Dance. Song. Music. Get ready to connect, engage, and celebrate cultures of all types at the 2019 Ashland World Music Festival, May 16-19th.

Saturday, May 18th is the MAIN EVENT, the Park Performance at Butler Bandshell in beautiful Lithia Park. On stage we have:

  • Ho’opa’a Hawai’i Club of Southern Oregon University sharing traditional Haka, Hula, and Tahitian dance.

  • Karim Nagi performing music from cultures throughout the Arab World

  • Sakumuna, a world music band led by Congolese musician Esperánce Kouka present a fusion of traditional and modern African musical traditions

  • Maraval Road, Southern Oregon’s premier steel pan band performing contemporary and traditional music from steel pan’s Trinidad roots and the surrounding Caribbean Islands.

  • Groupo Ritual Azteca Huitzilopotchli relives the ancient practices of the indigenous peoples of Anáhuac.

  • TBA

  • Son de Cuba blends classic and contemporary Latin song components in high-energy, dance-able performances of salsa, timba, son, merengue, cumbia, bachata, Latin jazz, etc.

In addition to music we have instrument-making and “the science of music” activities presented by 2019 AWMF partner ScienceWorks Hands-on Museum, global cuisine from multiple food vendors, and much more!
